How Do TASERs Work?

Electro-Muscular Disruption (EMD) technology, like Tasers, are designed to deploy a low level shock when used on subjects. Tasers are also known as non-lethal or less-lethal electroshock weapons that are less likely to result in death when compared to guns.

TASER® Electronic Control Devices work by immobilizing a target through a process called "neuromuscular incapacitation." When the darts are fired and enter the subject the body locks up, preventing the individual from moving for a number of seconds. The two probes create a circuit, jamming the electrical signals that run throughout the body and causing involuntary muscle contractions. Once the cycle is over, the muscles become freed and the target is able to move voluntarily again.

Most importantly, there is no permanent damage. The reason there is no lasting damage or ill effects is because like stun guns, the TASER® works off high voltage and low amperage, providing a stunning effect but not harming the host. The C2 has a 30 cycle and the M26C, X26C and X2 models have 10 seconds, respectively. A cycle commences with each pull of the trigger. TASER International will replace any device, under warranty, that is used and left behind in an altercation.

If you are on a budget, go for the TASER Bolt (formerly branded as the TASER C2) or the TASER Pulse. The Bolt is the go-to choice for women due to its portability. It runs for 30-second cycles.  The Pulse is great for conceal & carry or gun enthusiasts. The sleek, ergonomic design makes for easy handling. The Pulse runs for 30-second cycles. 

We recommend getting the TASER X26P. The TASER X26C has long been the workhorse for police departments worldwide. The X26P is a SMART Weapon upgrade over its analog predecessor, featuring charge metering for optimal charges, ambidextrous handling and Central Information Display (CID) for displaying critical elements.
